The Art of Relaxation

My days are really full between running a company, recording new music, and being a mom to my two (almost three!) children. I know that I can’t do it all without taking time out for myself to rest and recharge my batteries.

Just like I go through a bedtime process with my kids at night (bath, jammies, books, songs, repeat), I also have a nighttime ritual that helps me push pause on the craziness of the day.

Step 1: The Bath

Nothing helps me relax at night more than a long, luxurious bath. I turn the overhead lights way down, light some candles, fill the tub with warm water and put on a relaxing playlist. My secret: I add a blend of essential oils like lavender, Frankincense, and lemongrass to help me slow down, breathe, and focus on being in that moment. When I’m feeling super achy or I’m suffering from swollen feet (which is happening more often than not with this pregnancy), I take an Epsom salt bath to relax my muscles and soothe my stiff joints.

Step 2: The Robe

A comfy, cozy bathrobe is key to keeping the mood relaxed and staying zenned out before bed. I am a big, big fan of the Barefoot Dreams CozyChic® Robe which makes you feel like you’re floating on a cloud of … well, a cloud.

Step 3: Yoga Stretches

I try and do a few cat cows to work out any kinks I may have before bed, followed by downward facing dog to relax my body.

Step 4: The Meditation

To wrap up my bedtime ritual, I like to listen to one of my meditation apps on my iPhone (I’m loving Buddhify and The Mindfulness App lately) and do some simple guided meditation. If you’re lucky enough to have a hot husband who likes to give massages as much as my husband Eric does, then you’re one great foot rub away from the best sleep of your life. Sweet dreams!
