Over the last year or so I’ve tried all kinds of ballet flats looking for something that was not subtle at ALL. I didn’t want some understated flats, I wanted something that a person could conceivably mistake for REAL ballet shoes at a glance. I’m just dramatic that way and all-in on the Balletcore aesthetic! But everything I found with straps or ties would slip down and puddle at my ankles or require constant adjustment, or be completely invisible while wearing pants. I like Miu Miu’s shoes a lot! But I can’t drop Miu Miu money on satin slippers even if I AM all-in on this -core.
Enter the Fantine slippers. Goodness GODDESS, it’s like someone slipped inside my brain and lifted out all of my dreams for a perfect street-ready ballet slipper. The square toes are current. The straps are secure and visible no matter what you’re wearing. The toe-box is roomy and the shoe is extremely comfortable. I bought these in two colors (black and a beautiful true beige) in my usual size and I think these run true, maybe even a touch big. Best of all, they aren’t as delicate as they look. In spite of my whimsical love for satin, lace and tulle, I’m a mother of three young kids and spent the afternoon running errands in these. Not a single scuff or scratch, they’re holding up great.
The heel bites a little, but a couple of wears and a bit of moleskin did wonders. These shoes are fire and the only reason I’m not screaming “BUY IT” at everyone is because I feel so special when I wear them…

I love the shoe and was really excited to find it in size 12. The “toe box” is a little short for me, but I’m still satisfied with my purchase.
